10 years later

"Where were you when the world stopped turning on that September Day?"

I can not believe it has been 10 years since the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center buildings, the Pentagon and the plane that many brave people took down in Pennsylvania.  There were Mommies, Daddies, Sons, Daughters, Husbands, Wives, Aunts, Uncles, Grandparents, Friends and most important innocent people who lost their lives.  9-11-01 was a horrible day in America.

I was in college and sat on the couch all day with my roommates watching every detail of that day on TV.  I saw the second plane crash into the building, then watched as both towers fell.  I called my parents and talked to both of them about what was going on.  My roommates and I had a plan on how and what we would do to get back to Denver to be with our families if the "world was ending."

It was a scary day.  There are 2 times in my life that I have felt unsafe and that my parents could not protect me.  First was April 20, 1999, the Columbine High School shooting day, and then September 11, 2001.  They were both events that made me realize there are somethings that just happen and you can not always be protected.

I have recorded all of the 9-11 events that were on TV this weekend and plan on watching them this week.  I am sure I will shed a few tears as I watch the stories told by the family members who lost their loved one.  I think of the poor children who lost a parent and had to grow up without sharing all their special days with them.  I want to cry for the daughters who's fathers could not walk them down the isle or the son who did not have his mommy to kiss him goodnight.

Life holds unexpected events.  Take each day to tell the ones you love "I love you" just one more time.

Here are some quotes for 9-11-2011

As we remember that horrible day and the brave men and women whose selfless services made them heroes. Let us not forget those that have maintained us in the last decade. The completely volunteer military and federal service members that have joined in such large numbers that a draft has not been needed to fight the war on terror. Lastly remember the last ten years is proof that Americans will always persevere and overcome

Remember that day we were not black, brown, or white; not Democrat or Republican; not rich or poor? Remember that day we loved our neighbors just a little bit more and hugged our children just a little bit tighter? Remember that day we were no longer hyphenated Americans, but just simply Americans? In honor of those whose lives were lost; who ran in when others ran away; who are still fighting to keep us free. 9/11/2001- We shall never forget
